For those unaware, NewPipe is an open source, light-weight front-end for YouTube. It's not using any of YouTube's APIs, nor does it require you to have Google Play Services installed on your device. Instead, it simply parses the YouTube website so it can extract the data and play the videos you want directly on your smartphone or tablet. Because of the way the developer is parsing this data from YouTube, this prevents it from being published in the Play Store as it violates their ToS.
The application has a number of features including being able to specify the video quality, choosing a download location, the audio format, and the video format you want. You can set an external player if you'd like and even play it in a tiny pop-up window so you can multitask while you're watching a YouTube video. NewPipe has a lot of features packed into it but the latest one is the ability to specify the playback speed of whatever video you choose.
This is unique as the official YouTube application for Android doesn't even allow for this, and there's not an option for it on the mobile web client either. You would have to resort to requesting the desktop version of the YouTube website from within Chrome in order to change the playback speed of a video you're watching on your phone. Or, you can use the latest version of NewPipe (version 0.9.10 right now) and have this feature right inside of the application itself.
There are many who listen to podcasts in video format on YouTube and they like the ability to increase the playback speed of a video so it doesn't take as long to complete. There are also times when you just want to watch something funny on YouTube in slow motion. With NewPipe, you don't have to leave the application you're in, launch Chrome and request the desktop version of YouTube in order to gain this functionality.
