Essential Products Emails Customers, Shipping Essential Phone in 7 Days

While some have deemed the Essential Phone a failure before it has even started shipping, the launch has garnered a lot of attention within the Android community. A smartphone from the "Father of Android" Andy Rubin is sure to pique the interest of those who are dedicated to the platform. As with any smartphone from a new startup though, it was bound to run into a few snags along the way and that that's what we have seen with this one.

Mr. Rubin has big plans for the ecosystem surrounding the Essential Phone and we'll simply have to wait and see if it catches on. Many assumed it would be an enthusiast-first device and that may be true to some extent, but Essential Products has been working with multiple carriers across multiple regions so it's nice to see them really putting in an effort. The device was said to be in customers' hands in June but it's possible that expansion to additional carriers and regions pushed them back.

Some feel this puts the release of the Essential Phone too close to that other big flagships of 2017 (Galaxy Note 8, LG V30, Pixel 2). That may be the case too but again, it's something that we'll have to wait and see. In the middle of July, we were told that Mr. Rubin's new smartphone would be delivered to customers "within a few weeks." We're coming up on 4 weeks since that announcement was made and we still haven't had any devices shipped yet.

However, we do have some good news for those who have been looking forward to the device. Essential Products has been emailing those who pre-registered for the device and are telling them the device is made. They're asking for these people to put in their payment details now and the phone would be delivered "within 7 days." Customers are given a choice of paying for the device in full, or opting for a monthly payment option for around $30 per month.
