Google to Fix the Pixel 2 Buzzing Noise Issue in a Software Update

The Google Pixel 2 and the Pixel 2 XL were announced on October 4, and have since been released in selected markets. Initially, the phones suffered from several issues, from clicking sounds, audio recording issues, failure to flash factory images and OTA updates for Android 8.1 betafailure to unlock bootloaders on some Pixel 2 units, and more. The Pixel 2 XL suffered the larger share of issues as its display quality was criticized for burn-in, blue-tinted colour shift, and other issues, forcing Google to respond in a lengthy blog post.

Since then, the situation has stabilized for the most part, as Google has rolled out software updates to fix several of these issues. However, even now, some issues remain unfixed.

Users had been reporting buzzing sounds when they placed the Pixel 2 on their ear for a voice call. This is separate from the clicking sounds, which could be solved if users disabled NFC. The issue has not been fixed by Google as yet, but the company has now stated that the buzzing sound issue will be fixed in a software update rolling-out in the coming weeks.

"We're rolling out a software update in the coming weeks which eliminates a faint buzzing sound on some Pixel 2 devices when the phone is placed to your ear during a phone call."

It's good to know that the issue will soon be resolved. The teething issues faced by the Google's second-generation Pixel phones are now getting resolved, so users will now have a much better user experience than the user experience they had at launch.

Although some issues are unavoidable when launching a new product, we hope that Google learns from the Pixel 2 launch to work on preventing these sorts of issues from occurring in future smartphone launches. In particular, quality control standards should be continuously improved, and this is something that Google could learn from its competitors in the flagship space.
