Magisk v16.0 released with Bootloop Crash Fix, Huawei/Honor Treble Support, and more

Earlier this month, XDA Recognized Developer and Contributor topjohnwu released version 15.4 of Magisk to the public. That update included MagiskBoot improvements, socket obfuscation for hiding Magisk better, and some optimizations to Magisk Manager. Today, the popular systemless root tool has seen another release, this time to version 16.0, and this big update adds support for both Huawei and Honor devices running Android Oreo, fixes some previously reported bootloop issues, and much more.

For a lot of people, the biggest change in the latest version of Magisk is the added support for Huawei and Honor devices running Android Oreo. Earlier last week we told you that topjohnwu was able to get Magisk running on the first Treble device other than the Pixel XL. This achievement was made on the Honor View 10, and it also allowed Magisk to work on the Huawei Mate 10 series.

Another big change in version 16 is that an NDK compiler bug that was causing a bootloop has been fixed. Previously, some people installing version 15.4 of Magisk ran into a bootloop but this has been resolved with version 16.

topjohnwu also announced that libsu, his Android library for root app developers, has been fully documented and is ready for a proper release. The library was designed to easily share an interactive root shell across the whole application. For those interested, a tutorial, example code, and full Javadoc of the Android library are now all available here.

The last bit of information is very important for the community, and is something that personally affects topjohnwu. He has announced that he will be largely unavailable for the next 4 months due to his upcoming mandatory military service starting February 22nd. He will essentially be completely disconnected from the Internet for the next 4 months. As a result, submissions will slow down, but topjohnwu hopes that the large amount of work he's put in up to this point will satisfy the community. We personally wish topjohnwu the best, and the community will certainly be missing him!
