One million OnePlus 6 units were sold in 22 days, outselling the OnePlus 5 and OnePlus 5T

The smartphone market is constantly evolving with new players, making it impossible for any company to rest on their laurels. We've seen some of the best Android OEMs in the world drop in popularity after a generation or two while relative newcomers have started to see tremendous success. Today, OnePlus has announced their newly released OnePlus 6 has sold 1 million units in just 22 days—vastly outperforming the OnePlus 5 and OnePlus 5T.

This is an accomplishment for OnePlus considering that they are best known for their digital marketing. Companies like HTC and LG are struggling to stay relevant even with their new flagship device releases (the HTC U12+ and LG G7 ThinQ) having a presence in retail space. While OnePlus sells their devices through some retail partners, they, along with Xiaomi, have shown how to convert Internet enthusiasm into sales.

The highlight of this announcement is that they have been able to sell 1 million units after only 22 days of the OnePlus 6 being available to the public. If we look at the OnePlus 5 and the OnePlus 5T, the company has said it took them three months for these devices to reach the same sales figure. The sales figure isn't in the same ballpark as the Samsung Galaxy S9 or Apple iPhone X, but when comparing it to sales of the Google Pixel and Essential Phone it's certainly impressive. (For context, IDC's research says Google ended up selling 3.9 million Pixel smartphones while Essential sold "in the six figures" throughout all of 2017.)
