xt1225 BootAnimation Change

I have an unlocked xt1225 quark with twrp on CM13. I am trying to (unsuccessfully) install a boot animation and I cant get it to load. The previous theme I had installed the PitchBlack theme and its corresponding bootanimation. I removed that theme recently and changed it to deep darkness. The bootanimation remained as PitchBlack. I then tried to install a droid bootanimation, downloaded the apk, installed it and applied the annimation via themes. Unfortunately, the pitchblack animation will not overwrite.
can someone point me in the right direction how to change it and or remove pitchblack totally?
