Google has a history of code naming its hardware in a thalassic manner. The current generation Google Pixel is code named 'Sailfish' and before that Google named the Nexus 6, Nexus 6P, and Nexus 5X Shamu, Angler, and Bullhead respectively. In continuing that trend, Google appears to be code naming the next two Google Pixel flagships 'muskie' and 'walleye', per a report by David Ruddock over at Android Police.
Android Police points out that they believe the smaller of the two devices will be code named 'walleye' and therefore the larger will be 'muskie.' Although the 'walleye' code name appears in AOSP, there is not yet any public evidence for the existence of any device by the code name 'muskie.' Android Police does rate this rumor as a 9 out of 10 on their subjective confidence rating, however, based on the fact that they are able to corroborate some of this information with their own sources.
But we will have to wait to find out more information about theses two phones, given that we are several months out from any kind of formal announcement. If Google builds upon the already well received Pixel phone by adding the latest Snapdragon 835 SoC and waterproofing the device, they could have a superstar phone on their hands. On the other hand, we have to hope that Google doesn't make any drastic changes to the current hardware, such as removing the 3.5mm headphone jack as some other OEMs have been inclined to do. And hopefully, the company is able to sort out their supply issues given how many issues people have been having trying to purchase the device.
There's no use getting worked up over what will or won't happen with this device when we're so far out from its release date. Though, it's still fun to speculate, so let us know what hardware features you would like to see in the Google Pixel 2 in the comments below!
