Nubia Z17S and Nubia Z17 miniS Launched in China with Upgraded Specifications

In its launch event in Shenzhen, China, ZTE's sub-brand Nubia has announced two new smartphones in its lineup: the Nubia Z17S and Nubia Z17 miniS.


Nubia Z17S

The Nubia Z17S is an upgraded version of the flagship Nubia Z17 which was launched back in May this year. One of the main highlights of the device is its bezel-less display. The device packs a 5.73-inch fullHD+ display with an aspect ratio of 18:9. The body of the device is made out of airplane-grade aluminum alloy with curved corners.

On the inside, the device is fueled by the same Snapdragon 835 SoC as its predecessor coupled with either 6GB or 8GB of RAM and 64GB or 128GB of UFS 2.1 storage. On the back, the device features a dual camera setup comprised of a 23MP f/2.0 sensor and a 12MP f/1.8 sensor. While the dual camera setup on the front features two 5MP sensors with f/2.2 aperture and offers features like front portrait mode.

The Nubia Z17S packs 3,100mAh battery and comes with a support for fast charging which the company claims can charge your device from zero to 50% in just 25 minutes.

Additionally, the device comes with a rear-mounted fingerprint scanner, Bluetooth 4.1, and runs Android 7.1 based Nubia UI 5.1.

The Nubia Z17S will go on sale in China on October 19th with a price tag of CNY2,999 ($455) for 6GB/64GB version and CNY3,999 ($607) for 8GB/128GB model.

Nubia Z17 miniS

The Nubia Z17 miniS is an updated version of the Nubia Z17 mini which was launched back in June this year.

On the front, the Nubia Z17 miniS features a 5.2-inch fullHD display encased in a body made out of metal and glass. On the inside, the Z17 miniS is powered by a Qualcomm Snapdragon 653 octa-core SoC coupled with 6GB of RAM and 64GB of internal storage.

Similar to the flagship Z17S, the Nubia Z17 miniS also comes with dual camera setup on both front and back. The rear camera setup is comprised of two 13MP Sony IMX258 sensors with f/2.2 aperture. The dual camera setup utilizes an RGB and monochrome sensor to deliver better results in low-light conditions. On the other hand, the front dual camera setup is consist of a 16MP f/2.2 and a 5MP f/2.2 wide-angle lens and offers features like real-time bokeh and beauty mode.

The device packs a 3,200mAh battery which Nubia claims should easily run you more than a day on a single charge.  You still get a USB Type-C port but there is no headphone jack on board anymore, unfortunately.

On the software side of things, the Nubia Z17 miniS comes running Android Nougat out of the box with the company's custom skin Nubia UI 5.1 on top.

Available in Black Gold, Deep Blue, and Aegean Blue colors, the Nubia Z17 miniS will go on sale in China on October 19th for a price of CNY2,099 ($318).
