OnePlus Announces OxygenOS Open Beta 4 for the OnePlus 5

Since the launch of the OnePlus 5, OnePlus has maintained two separate, public software update channels for owners to choose from. You can stick with the stable branch of OxygenOS, or you can sideload the latest Open Beta. Open Beta updates aren't always stable or highly optimized, but they run well enough day-to-day, and they're the first place you'll see new and experimental features.

On Tuesday, OnePlus announced OxygenOS Open Beta 4 update for the OnePlus 5. The last OnePlus 5 Open Beta update brought the device up to version 3, and it added the Face Unlock feature introduced alongside the OnePlus 5T. Open Beta 4 for the OnePlus 5 is even more significant: It's chock full of applications, system optimizations, and new versions of pre-loaded applications.

As always, if you own a OnePlus 5T that's already on the Open Beta branch, you'll receive an over-the-air update for it when it becomes available. (Those on the stable branch will need to sideload it.) Keep in mind that if you ever want to move back to the stable branch, you'll have to perform a clean install.
