ZTE Axon M Launches in China, Available Soon in Europe

It was back in September 2017 when ZTE's dual-screen smartphone leaked for the first time. It was initially rumored to be called the ZTE Axon Multy, but the name was shortened to "Axon M" a month later when the company officially unveiled the phone to the world. It's gotten mixed reviews, but in our hands-on review, we found the Axon M to be a capable high-end smartphone with a generous amount of screen real estate.

ZTE released the Axon M in the United States November 1 on AT&T and in Japan on NTT DOCOMO, and at an event in Beijing on Tuesday, the company announced it's bringing the Axon M to China. It'll be available from JD.comMyZTE.com, and China Telecom beginning January 20.

ZTE also said that the Axon M will launch in Europe during the first quarter of 2018 on Vodafone and TIM, but it didn't say which countries will get it.

"Consumers are looking for inspiration," said Lixin Cheng, CEO of ZTE Mobile Devices. "They want to have more options, but they also want to experience the world around them more fully and in different ways. The Axon M is our answer and it has been well-received by consumers in markets around the world. We will continue to develop and lead the industry in the foldable smartphone category to provide meaningful innovation to consumers."

The Axon M has two separate 5.2-inch 1080p displays which fold open to form a single screen with an effective resolution of 1920×2160. Thanks to the dual screens and hing, the Axon M is one of the thicker smartphones released in 2017, but the under-the-hood hardware makes up for it. The phone has a Qualcomm Snapdragon 821 system-on-chip paired with 4GB of RAM and 64GB of expandable storage, all of which is powered by a 3,180mAh battery. It's not exactly the cutting edge, but it delivers an impressively smooth experience.
