Huawei P20 Pro Firmware Files Leak, Confirms Android 8.1 Oreo

Huawei will announce the P20, P20 Pro, and the P20 Lite at an event on March 27. At this point, there is not much left to discover about the phones. We exclusively reported that the phones will have a display notch, which may be used for a Point Cloud Depth Camera to take on Apple's Face ID feature. We then exclusively reported that the Huawei P20 will launch with EMUI 8.1 on top of Android 8.1 Oreo. With respect to the Huawei P20 Pro (formerly termed as the P20 Plus), we reported that it would have a 4000mAh battery, while the regular P20 will have a smaller 3320mAh battery. The P20 Lite, on the other hand, will be a mid-range device.

Now, in another development, firmware files of the Huawei P20 Pro have been leaked. The firmware files confirm that the device will launch with Android 8.1 Oreo out of the box, and the device name will be CLT-L29.

Renders and photos for all three devices have now leaked, leaving little to the imagination (hardware details include glass backs and display cutouts). We already know that the P20 and the P20 Pro will be powered by the HiSilicon Kirin 970 system-on-chip, while the P20 Lite will be powered by the Kirin 659 SoC.

We have previously reported that the Huawei P20 Pro will have an Always on Display feature, which implies that it may have an OLED display. The Huawei P20, on the other hand, will have a LCD screen. The P20 Pro will have a triple camera setup, while the P20 and the P20 Lite will stick to a dual camera configuration. As of now, details about the P20 Pro's cameras as well as its RAM and storage configuration aren't known yet, but it seems likely that we will learn even more about the P20 series in the time leading up to the launch event.
