Google is rolling out a new version of Allo that allows starting Duo calls straight from the app. This long-awaited feature was announced by Nick Fox, VP of Communications Products, and Amit Fulay, head of product for Allo and Duo.
When Google first released Allo and Duo, many users were confused why these applications were separate products. Although Google is not merging Allo and Duo, the company has made a step in the right direction by pushing the two closer and closer together. The search giant currently maintains Allo, Duo, Hangouts, and Messenger as their main messaging apps. Justin Uberti, technical lead for Duo, confirmed that more integrations are yet to come.

The new Allo feature is visible in the top right corner, right next to the contact image. Tapping on the little Duo icon starts the video call. If a recipient does not have Duo installed, he or she will get a notification to download the app. The latest update also brings an ability to add stickers to photos inside Allo.

Users had to wait roughly a year to see the integration between these two communication apps. There is still no sign of the promised PC client, though. We also have no idea if or when SMS integration will actually arrive. Recently, Google finally nixed the ability to send SMS messages from Hangouts. What's the next move for Google? It's difficult to tell. We just hope it's not another messaging app.
