Last year was pretty rough for Samsung as the company had to suspend the production of the Galaxy Note 7 due to some serious battery related issues which not only hurt the South Korean giant financially but also did damage to the Galaxy Note brand globally. After the ill-fated Galaxy Note 7 phablet, it looks like Samsung is now getting ready to release the latest member in its Note series.
According to a new report coming from South Korea, Samsung is planning to launch the Galaxy Note 8 as early as August. As reported by the South Korean publication Naver, Samsung is expected to hold an Unpacked event on August 26 in New York, where the company will likely unveil its newest Galaxy Note device.
Samsung reportedly initially planned to launch the Galaxy Note 8 in the first week of September at IFA 2017 but later changed the schedule to avoid conflict with Apple, which was also planning to launch its newest iPhone in September.
In terms of design, the Galaxy Note 8 is not expected to be radically different compared to the Galaxy S8/S8+. According to a Samsung official who spoke to Naver, the Note 8 will feature a 6.3-inch curved Infinity display, a slightly improved S Pen, a dual-camera setup on the rear, and the Bixby button found on the Galaxy S8/S8+.
The Galaxy S8 featured an awkwardly-positioned fingerprint reader besides the rear camera, which many found tough to access while using the device with one hand. Luckily, that won't be the case with the Galaxy Note 8 as the report states that the fingerprint reader on the Galaxy Note 8 has been shifted to the center of the device. Earlier it was believed that the Galaxy Note 8 will come with an on-screen fingerprint reader, however, due to technical limitations like slow reading speed and low recognition rate, Samsung had to drop the plan.
Meanwhile, Samsung is also planning to release the Galaxy Note FE, a refurbished version of the Note 7, next month in South Korea. The device will feature a reduced capacity battery and will reportedly retail for over $600.
